Port Renfrew Fishing Report

Fishing continues to be excellent  for both salmon and halibut at Port Renfrew!

Beach Fishing Report: Along the shoreline from Owen Pt, Camper Creek, Cullite, Logan Creek, to Walbran continues be productive for chinook using anchovies and your favourite  teaser heads and spoons from 20 to 60 ft range. Make sure you load your reels to the gunnels…we have come close to being spooled on several fish this season. We have already had several quality fish in the high 30’s and one at 40lbs weighed in for July! We have been marking lots of feed which has also driven the Coho in towards the shoreline. If you want some great action between the tide swings for chinook, try trolling out to the 4th tide line 200 to 400 ft of water for Coho and Pink salmon. South of the 50th latitude on odd years we have an abundance of Pink salmon migrating south to the Fraser River…report is up to 15 million this season. They provide great action for notice fisherman and kids.

Off Shore Report: Fishing guests on guided charters are all returning with big smiles and sore arms from cranking on fish! Our off shore fishery in and around  Swiftsure Bank for pelagic chinook salmon and halibut is full on, and continues to be excellent for springs from 12 to 25lbs. These fish aren’t shy, and will smash your gear…so be prepared for multiple hook ups and double headers. Try running Coyote, Gold Star, or Tomic spoons in 3.5″ to 6” size. Splatter back hoochies, brown, or green glow turds are also effective. If you are not on a charter…go prepared, we are now entering foggest August. Visibility is normally zero, with inbound and outbound traffic in the shipping lanes.
