As of June 11th…Fishing is now in full swing for Halibut and Salmon at Port Renfrew. Clients on charters are all returning with their limits of Halibut. Fishing has been excellent on our famous Swiftsure Bank! There is a good mix of unders and overs which are providing our guests with quality fish. Check the new size limits for 2013 Halibut before heading out.
The salmon fishing has been fairly consistent along the regular hot spots at Port Renfrew. Shoreline (beach fishing) with early season springs to 20lbs, with the odd hog being weighed in. Try using: fire cracker sized anchovy with your favourite teaser head ( fighting helmet) and flasher combo! 3.5″ Coyote or Gold Star spoons have also been worth running. Try… the ” Cookies n”Cream”, “Kitchen Sink”, or the “Night Rider”. I know these spoons have also been working very well in Barkley Sound and the inside waters of Vancouver Island. Also don’t forget to fish those needle fish squirts/hoochies…fish em deep just off the sand bottom.
Off Shore fishing for pelagic salmon around Swiftsure Bank is just starting to get going. If you are reading this report in July, we are now full on with fishing! If your out on the bank, fish deep with spoons or glow hoochies. Coho opened June 1st…don’t forget your fly rod and light tackle for some surface action!
Watch the weather and make sure you go prepared. The offshore waters around Port Renfrew and Swiftsure Bank is not the place if you are in experienced. Hire a professional guide, and take all the worry out of your fishing. You can crank on fish and have an adventure of a lifetime.
