I haven’t had much time to update a fishing report since May ( busy fishing)! Fishing has been excellent at Port Renfrew on Vancouver Island over the last 2 weeks. June 20th Summer Solstice… our famous West Coast Chinook arrived on Swiftsure Bank. The outlook for our summer fishery looks good, with good numbers of pelagic chinooks from 14 to 25lbs. There is a heathly mix of both hatchery and wild Chinook / Coho from both sides of the border. The weather has been up and down as every where is the province. We have been blessed with good traveling and fishing weather over the last few days and no fog is a bonus. Guides fishing quests off-shore have had excellent mornings with limits of both salmon and halibut. There are schools of Coho boiling 20+ miles in any direction. June 1st you can retain two hatchery Coho per/person per/day.
Off -Shore fishing…try using glow hoochies, spoons or plugs. Depths very with conditions, but 150 to 200ft on the riggers is pretty much the drill. Some mornings it’s tough to get through the Coho to those fiesty springs. Halibut has it’s good days, and other days when you have to put in your time. ..good average size from 20 to 50 lbs.
The season is just getting underway, so if you are interested in having an awesome experience off-shore fishing contact me ( Dan Harvey) at Pacific Sport Fishing Charters for details…1-250-954-3997 I will be happy to anwser any questions or nail down the details for booking a charter. Check your dates, and get out to Port Renfrew for some fishing action…you won’t be disappointed.
