r002-068What a great start to the 2009 season…testing the waters at Port Renfrew with family and friends. The weather was flat  calm and sunny clear across to Swiftsure Bank and right up the entire West Coast. We already fired back 2 Springs in the high teens, and were waiting patiently for that lucky third hook up! Coop rigged the roll to work some magic! Bruce ran the boat down his favorite stretch of water. Carmen saw the  bump on the rod, Coop set the hook and handed me the rod! “Fish On” (I must have been sitt’n in the right seat! ) After almost 30 minutes of tug of war, and few tense moments and lots of comments from the bleachers… Bruce netted the hog! High fives all around! Clean, bright and big and a really excited crew! We guessed her to be in the high 30’s. We were jacked to get back to the marina and hang it on the scale. “Wow” 45.5lbs…she held the record for the largest fish at Port Renfrew for almost 3 months!  Thanks to my guide buddies Bill and Bruce for a perfect day.
