Wow! It’s already Sept 3rd…almost a month from my last updated fishing report for Pacific Sports Fishing Charters which operates out of Port Renfrew on Vancouver Island, British Columbia.
September is still a great month to be fishing at Port Renfrew! Chinook are still filtering down the outside of Vancouver Island, heading for their native rivers. The weather has been fantastic…flat, calm and sunny, which helps make fishing really comfortable when hunting those big chinooks along the shore line. Most fish caught are in the high teens and mid 20’s, with the odd big hog caught everyday! We are also starting to see a few fiesty Fraser River white springs, which anybody that has had the chance to battle ones of these guys knows how much power they have! We are also just starting to see a good mix of returning fall coho along the shore which helps keep you on your toes between those solid hook ups with the big ones.
With respect to gear for chinook fishing along the shore…everybody has their lucky teaser heads! Ones worth wett’n are blue crome, besty, Joanne, bloody nose, purple hase, nass car and try running a white coho killer on the back rod…you could be surprized!
The rivers are still very low, with no sight of rain in the forcast for the south Island over the next 10 days. There are still chinook, coho and halibut off shore if you make to effort. Halibut is closed sunday Sept 9th. Most people are putting their efforts towards chinook fishing along the shore, and saving the halibut for next season in May, June, July and Aug 2013.
GET READY FOR OUR FAMOUS FALL COHO! Port Renfrew has one of the best Sept/ Oct coho fishing on Vancouver Island. It is an exciting times of the season…the fish are fatting up by the week and getting closer to shore. It’s a great end of the season fishery for family and friends, with lots of action and great memories.
Port Renfrew Marina will be hoisting their annual fall coho derby again this year on the last weekend of Sept. Don’t miss out! Call Pacific Sport Fishing for all the details 1-250-954-3997 or visit us at www.pacificsportshing.ca.
