Halibut season opens on the West Coast of Vancouver Island February 1st 2016.

Daily Limit, Size and Possession is the exact same as last year.  You are allowed one Halibut per/day. If you are fishing 2 days, you are allowed 2 halibut (one per/day). The maximum length allowed is 133cm, or 52” inches, second Halibut must be no greater than 90cm or 35″ inches.

The size limits we catch are typically Halibut weighing up to roughly 60+ lbs. Halibut over 70lbs are egg-carrying females, so the non retention of the larger fish is beneficial to our Halibut stocks.

I normally anchor for halibut which is an effective way to target quality Halibut and allow everyone to relax, crank on fish and enjoy the day.
